We are very excited to announce that we will be partnering with Sue Parris on the #LetUsPlayFootball project. Sue brings 25 years of experience working with children, young people and parents, 12 of those within professional football.

"I am excited about partnering with #LetUsPlay because the aim of my work is to prevent, as far as is possible, children and young people, and the adults they become, from experiencing emotional crises due to their involvement in football and I feel, #LetUsPlay has the potential to play a large part in that preventative work.

Most of the professional players I work with reminisce about 'playing' football down the park with their mates when it was fun and they felt free but how quickly the fun dissolved as the adults in their life started to take it too seriously too early.

#LetUsPlay provides the tangible and intangible reminders we all need to keep football fun from grassroots to the professional level, alongside access to effective education and support enabling us to be assets to our youngsters rather than a hindrance."

Is this something a 8-year old should hear?

I witnessed this at the weekend in an U9's football match. The boy had an uppercut to the nose from a ball - It was a hefty whack.

Sadly, this is one of many moments many of us see on the sidelines.

This is mainly attributed to 'pressure from adults'.

Our mission is to reduce this shocking number. How?

There is nothing wrong with a highly motivated young footballer that dedicates a lot more of their own time to practice.

A child's willingness to self-practice without any external pressure is attributed to high achievement.

HOWEVER, a parent pushing a child to train more against their will is attributed to high levels of dropout.

Let them decide.

I think we've all tried to use 'reverse psychology' or 'manipulation' when parenting. In some cases we think it is a genius plan, or it is done out of desperation.

This was my dad's 'genius plan' to rile me before games & stop me from turning my back when defending shots. I don't remember it working!
